The AMO micro-implantation Cataract Suite has been welcomed by leading clinicians. They believe this integrated solution can help make the benefits of the cataract microsurgery procedure more accessible.
"Today's lens market has expanded enormously in the last 10 years. In addition to classic cataract surgery, refractive lens technology is increasingly coming to the fore. In this context, coordinated systems such as AMO's Micro-Implantation Cataract Suite are very important. Here, both classic lenses and premium lenses, e.g. Multifocal lenses and toric lenses with corresponding small-section surgical techniques and instruments, as well as phaco techniques adapted to them, are offered", says Prof. Dr. med. Gerd Auffarth, medical director of the University Eye Clinic Heidelberg.
Data from a survey of members of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) show a general European trend towards smaller cataract surgery incisions, as well as increased use of toric intraocular lenses (IOL) to correct astigmatism. The AMO Suite supports these trends. Consisting of five top-quality components that are user-friendly and designed for an integrated application, it incorporates some unique features that make switching to cataract microsurgery easily accessible and intuitive.
The Micro-Implantation Cataract Suite includes:
The unique TECNIS® optic corrects the spherical aberration of the average eye to almost zero and thus achieves sharper vision.
The TECNIS® IOL family has now been expanded with the latest addition, the TECNIS® Toric IOL. The inherent 3-point fixation inherent in the TECNIS® IOL integral design provides excellent stability for accurate and predictable astigmatism correction.
Regardless of whether the components are used individually or together, surgeons also report that the Micro-Implantation Cataract Suite is easy to use and requires only a minimum amount of training or familiarization. Also Prof. Dr. Gerd Auffarth supports this opinion: "This promotes the transition from cataract surgery to refractive implantation surgery. The surgeon does not have to change anything of his cataract surgery set, everything stays the same, even the lens belongs to the same platform (TECNIS® 1-Piece Design). This makes it relatively easy for the surgeon to switch to small-diameter surgery with premium lenses without having to learn a new surgical procedure. As a result, the quality does not decrease, but its high quality and safety is maintained."
